To Avert Disaster....

The tale begins.....
The hero enters

Into the horrible instability of the Realm comes Joshua. He has accepted a job invitation from Ragara Methis, a dynast who is looking for aid. The note says “Looking for someone with a certain set of skills”. Any normal member of Creation would take that to mean he either wants something stolen, or someone killed. But Joshua is no normal member of creation. He is a Dawn caste solar, one who was exalted upon saving defenseless children from a blazing fire started by the Wyld Hunt. Knowing that there is differences in what ‘certain skills’ are, he arrives at a warehouse in Lord’s Crossing, expecting either a well-paying job, or a Wyld Hunt trap. What he finds surprises him.

An offer is given

Outside, Joshua runs into a man leaning against a wall. He greets Joshua with a “You too, huh?” After a drawn out conversation, two things become clear: The stranger is an exalt, and that his name is ‘Archer’. He says it’s not his real name. Both he and Joshua enter the warehouse at the selected time, and find themselves surrounded by other possible applicants. At this point, Ragara Methis appears before them all, with a simple statement: “The job requires skill, stealth, and discretion. It will be incredibly dangerous.” Half the people gather file out the door, thinking themselves over their heads. But not Joshua. Not Archer. Seeing their numbers diminish, Methis smiles. “I only require two of you” he says, looking over the nine people still there. “We shall have tryouts. Face each other in combat. Whomever wins may have the job.” Archer catches on first, driving an arrow through the nearest competitor’s leg. As he collapsed to the ground, the other people gathered begin to fight….. And Joshua begins to enjoy himself.

The stakes are raised

Joshua seems to barely notice several of the fights. He easily dispatches several of the fighters, before he’s confronted by a beastman. The two clash, with Joshua taking a fair bit of injury before finally dispatching his foe. Then, he turns to the last standing contestants: Archer and a woman who is hiding while throwing poisonous darts at people. For the longest time, Joshua seems to be unable to find her, but eventually she slips up, and is spotted by Archer, who in a fit of irritation, kills her with an arrow.

Methis is highly pleased. He gives the two obvious solars a mission: Spy on a list of people he will provide, avert a civil war on the Blessed Isle, and they will be paid enough to live comfortably for the remainder of their lives. He gives the names:
Ledaal Kes, Sesus Nagezzer, Mnemon, Tepet Ejava, and Tepet Arada.

Joshua and Archer accept the job, and get their first payment, which they immediately begin to spend. The following day, transportation is arranged: The two men are going to the Imperial City.
